There is one month left to finish up my sketchbook, and still a lot for me to do! I have a few more spreads to complete, then I’ll add the text and send it off to the Art House Co-op to be archived. I’ve been perusing some of the “in-progress” work of other participants, and it is really inspiring to see what people are doing, check it out here >
Before my sketchbook arrived, I’d decided I would be painting the pages with watercolor washes. After playing with the book for a little while, I came to the conclusion that colored pencils would be a better medium. It has been a challenge, as pencil for me has always been messy – subject to smudging and going outside the lines. I’m feeling good about my progress, though, and I am really excited to see this project completed! It has been a nice break from my normal routine.
I’ve been making progress on my sketchbook from Art House Co-op. after careful consideration, I decided to take it apart, re-cover it and stitch back in the pages. I used vintage wall paper from my mom’s house for the cover, and I really love the way it turned out. I’ve also been using another sketchbook to work on some of my ideas; jotting down words that go with my chosen theme, and experimenting with “cut-outs”. ready to start working on the inside of my book now!
(from 12/31/2011)

i was so excited to discover The Sketchbook Project. I signed-up right away, chose my theme (Distance & Time), and pre-ordered the Limited Edition book. I waited patiently for my 5.25″ x 7.25″, 32 page sketchbook to arrive – my head already spinning with questions and ideas. should I keep it intact, should I pull it apart and add in more pages???
The Sketchbook Project Limited Edition Vol. 1 is a collaborative series of art books created by 5,000 artists from around the world.
now it is here – I’ve taken all of the “before” photographs- and, with just a little hesitation, I am ready to begin. It will be my first project for 2012, I’ll be documenting the process as i go along. with a postmark deadline of April, 30 2012 it seems like I have plenty of time – but I know that date will creep up quickly!
