i’ve had a great time sharing my art at the deep ellum outdoor market ~ come experience this fun & unique event supporting local art & business!

everyday inspiration: i love it when a still life comes together!

the beginning of july offered a couple of weeks of pleasant weather (as tx summers go). on one particularly nice saturday morning, sam & i found ourselves at the corsicana farmer’s market. i don’t know if it was the recent rain, or that we’d arrived later in the a.m., but there wasn’t a large selection to chose from, especially fruit, which is what i’d been hoping for. there was an abundance of summer squash, eggplant, watermelon & flowers. i was content to just “look & leave” when a batch of quirky looking eggplants caught my eye. suckered in, i chose a pair, paid the chipper looking man with the gray hair & overalls, & away we went!

a few days earlier, as i was visiting my mother, i noticed she’d started removing the wall paperin her guest bathroom. this was the last bit of what was left from the original “finish-out” of the house – the same one i grew up in (for 20 years). it is a lovely vintage pattern in tones of gold…for whatever reason, i had to have it. so i sent the kiddo off to collect all the good pieces.

and so we arrived home on saturday, after our trip to corsicana, and i sat contemplating what to do with the squatty eggplants. it soon occurred to me how handsome their rich purples would look with the goldeny yellow wallpaper sitting one the easel nearby. suddenly inspiration emerged & i had to get it on paper!
